Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Celestron NexImage Solar System ImagerCustomer Review: Needs a little work Summary: 3 Stars
Installation was a little bit of a chore. Error messages when installed on two different computers.
Tech support from Celestron was no real help. Eventually I got it working on my laptop but not desktop (which is fine)
Haven't been able to do any star gazing yet. Too cold outside.
Just by playing with the software, I can see it will be a challenge.
But that's half the fun.
Customer Review: Use caution Summary: 1 Stars
I received this item as a gift. I was considering purchasing one so I was quite pleased. I didn't have any of the issues with the software that many users have posted about. Setup was relatively quick and easy. Things went down hill from there though. The threading on the tube was of such poor quality that I couldn't fully thread any filters onto the camera. I could get one on, but am not comfortable with it hanging literally by a thread while inside my scope.
The next issue is that I could never get a clear image through the camera. While investigating this I closely inspected the area near the camera sensor. The plastic in the area is discolored as if it was scorched. There are also either cracks or streaks of glue leading from the edge towards the sensor. This coupled with the threading issue now makes me believe that the workmanship of this product is less than desirable.
I was never able to get a good focus using the camera. I suspect that the issue is as much related to the magnification provided by this camera being higher than the effective maximum magnification for my scope. This is something you should be aware of before purchasing this item. Extreme magnification does you no good if all it does is produce a fuzzy image.
I contacted Celestron technical support about the issue. I gave them all of the details of my problem and asked what I could do to resolve the problem. I received a 3 line response. They told me it is difficult to focus at high magnification and that focus also depends on "seeing" whatever that means. I can focus with any eyepiece that falls within the acceptable magnification for my scope, which again points to the camera over magnifying in my setup. I could buy a focal reducer, but doing so would limit me to imaging the moon which I can do much better with my DSLR.
I will be returning this item to Amazon today.
Make sure you know your scope can handle a 5mm eyepiece before buying this system. If you can use an eyepiece with that focal length then you are probably ok with this item. If you can put up with the poor workmanship.
Customer Review: cannot use the product Summary: 1 Stars
I have installed the included software on 2 separate laptop computers without success. A message pops up telling me that a preview is not available, meaning that the image from the camera will not show on the screen. After uninstalling and re-installing the software several times, I searched the internet and found a demo version which I downloaded. This worked fine and showed the image on the screen but the software is not configured the same as the Celestron software and is a limited demo version.
I made several unsuccessful attempts to contact someone at Celestron and they do not respond to my emails.
For me, this was a waste of money!!!!
Customer Review: Celestron NexImage Summary: 1 Stars
I was very disappointed with the nexImage. The barrel was crossed threaded and I could not remove it to insert the Celestron Neximager reducer lens. I called Celestron and they cofirmed that that is a problem with this device. They were to get back to me in a couple of days to resolve the issue. A week went by and no one called. Overall the product shows signs of poor workmanship. I returned the product back to Ace Camera. I am waiting on a refund. I would not recommend this product.
Customer Review: not a good camera Summary: 1 Stars
from the good reviews on here about this product despite the bad reviews I went ahead and purchased this camera. I was disappointed. I was able to get a vista driver off of a forum and the camera operated correctly but the results were less than spectacular. I used this with a orion xt10 telescope and the images that came through were fuzzy and blurry. I took better pictures by just placing my digital camera up to the eyepiece.
