Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Celestron NexImage Solar System ImagerCustomer Review: Excellent value! Summary: 4 Stars
I used the NexImage Solar System Imager on two telescopes: a 6" Celestron Nexstar, and an 8" Meade SCT. The setup of the NexImage was straightforward, and the instructions were very good. It was very difficult to keep an image on the NexImage sensor with the Alt-AZ Nexstar. I had no trouble maintaining an image of Jupiter centered when using the equatorial mounted Meade SCT. The image capture is easy and the post-processing software included is surprisingly comprehensive. My initial images were overexposed--but that is a result of inexperience rather than any fault of the NexImage. In my opinion this is an excellent product that performs as advertised, although it takes a little practice and some patience to produce good images. I found it difficult to use with an ALT-AZ scope; I had a pretty good polar alignment on the Meade SCT and found that the image stayed in the sensor field very well. Focusing is a little challenging--you may at first have a barely perceptible light area that finally resolves into a wiggly round blob recognizable as the planet you are attempting to image. The post-processing software does a remarkable job of removing the wiggles.
Customer Review: Great value and more than a toy Summary: 4 Stars
Installing the software was a piece of cake, using it is quite another matter. The basic introductory instructions are easy enough but after that it seems to require a PhD in mathematic astrophysics to get round all the available toggles, tweaks and options. First attempts? The moon came out real nice, but Saturn was a white blob with no fine detail. Nothing like type of pics that the super-whizzkids proudly display on the Celestron site. Will go back to night school and one day you might see my fine efforts published as well
(oh - was using it on a classic LX200 in good see'ing conditions - sorry Celestron!)
Customer Review: Barrel Too Small Summary: 4 Stars
Received new camera earlier than scheduled which is always great. Camera barrel was almost one-eight inch too small though which made securing in eyepiece holder difficult. I called Celestron to see what they could do for me. They were very nice and immediately sent me an RMA for a return. Return took about ten days from ship to my door which is normal. Barrel is now exactly 1.25". The camera itself is very cool - just used terrestrially so far but look forward to dark skies. If you have Vista you will need to download the driver from their web site - works fine.
Customer Review: Great stuff for the up & coming astrophotgrapher Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this item to use with my 8" CPC, SCT. I printed & studied the instructions, page by page, before trying it. I ran through the tutorial first. It was exceptionaly well presented & gets the beginner on his way fast. I Captured so so images of the Moon & Saturn at first & learned the basic processing but after more fine tunned studing & attempts my images are remarkable. I really like the instantanious veiwing of the capture image on the computer as your focusing the object in. Good stuff.
Customer Review: Celestron NexImage - affordable - reliable- easy to use Summary: 4 Stars
I have found the Celestron NexImage to be a low cost and successful addition to my astrography collection of cameras. The CCD chip is very sensitive and even with my smaller 70mm Meade ETZX you can see Saturn's rings very clearly.
