Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Celestron Accessory Kit

Customer Review: Overall - Very pleased with purchase
Summary: 4 Stars

I own a Celestron NexStar SLT 130. I was looking for an eyepiece kit to expand beyond the two (9 mm and 25 mm) that came with the telescope. I have been very pleased with the kit. The eyepieces seem pretty good to me, though I am definitely on the amateur side of the spectrum. My only negative comment is that it would have been nice to not duplicate my existing 9 mm eyepiece (the kit comes with 4, 6, 9, 15 and 32 mm). However, I did know that it would be duplicated prior to purchasing, so it was my choice to do so.

The filters also work well, though it would be nice if their little boxes came labeled on the outside. I ended up labeling them with a marker to make it easier to pick the right one. The included guide for using the filters was also helpful.

The carrying case seems relatively sturdy with pretty good foam packaging inside.

I would definitely recommend this purchase to others.

Customer Review: Nice Kit for the Beginner
Summary: 4 Stars

The filters and the aluminum case are the highlight of this kit, and make it worth the money for the beginner. The eyepieces are of medium to low quality; very low eye relief in particular is a prevalent issue with all of the eyepieces. The 6mm and 4mm lenses appear to be the least impressive of the lot. The 9mm and 15mm perform reasonably well. I can't speak to the quality of the 32mm, as exit pupil renders it useless in my scope. The included Barlow lens works reasonably well with the 9mm eyepiece, but the image is quite dark when used in conjunction with both the 4mm and 6mm.

The filters I have used thus far from the kit have been of very acceptable quality, and again these filters and the case itself make the kit worth the money for the beginner. I recommend replacing the higher magnification eyepieces and the Barlow lens with something of better quality as soon as it is economically feasible.

Customer Review: Good but not Great Kit
Summary: 4 Stars

The eyepieces included with this kit are marked with the type and size (e.g., "Plossl 32mm") and the manufacturer ("Celestron"). None of the names of other Celestron eyepiece suites (e.g. Nexstar or Axiom) are shown. They appear to be well made and have good coatings but don't appear to be of the same quality as other Celestron eyepieces. My guess is that these are generic, low-cost plossl's that Celestron has packed into this kit.

I don't have enough experience with these eyepieces yet to give a good review of their performance. The are far better with greater brightness and resolution than the cheap MA types that were included with my scope (Bushnell). The eye relief on the 6mm is quite short.

Overall, this kit is still a bargain for those who need to upgrade to a reasonably good quality and very complete set of eyepieces and filters.

Customer Review: A good starter kit.
Summary: 4 Stars

This kit offers a nice, and inexpensive, selection of eyepieces so that you can figure out which ones work the best with your telescope and viewing habits. Once you have that figured out then you should buy some some quality eyepieces that suit your needs as, other than having eye cups, I really don't think these are of any better quality than the ones that came with my Celestron scope. The filters don't work well on my 4.5 inch scope, as they darken things down a bit too much, but if your scope has more light gathering ability I am sure they would work fine. The case is well constricted and has plenty of room to cut holes in the foam for add ons. Overall, I would say that this is a beginners essential need as a learning tool if nothing else.

Customer Review: it is as expected...
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased this kit to beef up my beginning collection of lenses and filters. I realize that there are much better individual pieces out there but, as I am a novice, figured this would give me a solid idea of what I really want to spend my money on in the future. So far it is doing just that. The views of Saturn through my 8 inch SC are awesome and the nebulae are easier to discover. The barlow works well. My only criticism comes with the moon filter. I wish it were "darker (less transmition) as it is still like looking at the sun when near full.
