Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Celestron Accessory KitCustomer Review: Excellent price / quality ratio Summary: 5 Stars
After many years spent without gazing at the stars I finally made my move again and bought a new Nexstar 114. It came with 2 basic eyepieces. This kit looked like a nice addition, for a fair price.I received the kit quickly, well this is Amazon... The case, as said before in other review, is sturdy and well designed. It is very convenient to carry around, and you don't have to worry about damaging your eyepieces at all. I found it very nice being able to carry all eyepieces at once, and leave the case a few feet away from my observation location, in order to grab elements I need. The set features some extra space inside, and you can fit another 3 eyepieces. Eyepieces are of good quality. Not top of the line, yet they provide a crisp and clear view. The barlow lens is well built as well. I found the larger eyepiece (the 4mm one) to be of average quality, especially when used with the barlow lens. Filter are well chosen and give you a good range of choices. I found the moon filter not dark enough to my taste, but it still does a nice job. Overall, the born-again star gazer that I am is very satisfied of this very good investment.
Customer Review: Celestron eye-piece accessory Summary: 5 Stars
I have used all 5 of the eyepieces and the Barlow 2X with my Celestron Nexstar 8" SCT. I am pleased with the variety of eyepieces provided and found the 6mm, 9mm, 15 mm and 32 mm to perform very well. The 4mm has been used less frequently. To have a family of eyepieces to choose from at the price of $119 is a good value. The 2X barlow works very well with 9mm and above eyepieces and also with the 25 mm standard eyepiece. I have not had a chance to really use the filters yet but am confident they will provide enhancements as designed. The same item was found on Hungate's website at $149 and was priced at $199 in the local Hungate store. I purchased at Amazon for $119 and free shipping. The time of order to delivery was about 1 week. I would highly recommend to a beginner that is anxious to have a variety of eyepieces to view the planets. Better quality is available but the kit provides a handy storage and travel case with expansion spaces. I even store my camera's lens adapter there. After all is said, I am glad I bought the kit and consider it a very good value.
Customer Review: Excellent product for an excellent price... Summary: 5 Stars
As has been mentioned before, you're not getting top of the line ep's here and would you expect to at this price? What you are getting though is a good selection of good quality ep's, this is a quick and easy way to fill out your accessory kit for cheap and to have a nice sturdy case to house them in. I've been using mine with my 10" Hardin dob and I have not regretted my purchase at all. The only negative to this kit was purchasing it though here, I placed an order and it was sitting unattended for 6 weeks. When I inquired if it would be shipped on the estimated ship date I was given a very vague answer that hinted at the date being unknown. I quickly cancelled the order and placed an order over at telescopesforless.com and only waited a week for the backorder to come in and be shipped out, for the same exact price as here. If you can get it through here or don't mind waiting a couple of months then do it, if you want to get to use your accessory kit I would recommend telescopesforless.
Customer Review: Excellent value for the money. Summary: 5 Stars
Even though these are not the "top of the line" Plossls, close inspection shows they didn't skip on the necessary steps that go into a quality eyepiece. The casings are metal and do not in any way feel like plastic as other reviews may imply. The internal filter threads are darkened to minimize unwanted reflections. The optic elements themselves, along with being fully anti-reflection coated, are edge-blackened, a step most 'cheap' eyepieces ignore and another way to reduce internal reflections and light loss. Like any eyepiece, care must be taken when removing filters not to loosen the casing as they are designed to come apart. This is not a sign of poor craftsmanship, just thread it back on until snug. Far better Plossls do exist, but if you're looking to get your first set of 1.25" eyepieces this is the way to do it.
Customer Review: Great bargain! Summary: 5 Stars
I'm not going to imply that these are the best eyepieces available but they are good eyepieces and they are incredibly affordable. They are essentially Celestron's "Omni" series Plossl eyepieces, which are their least expensive series and retail for $30 - $40 each. Just the eyepieces alone are worth the $100. The barlow lens is a quality piece but is fairly redundant with these eyepieces unless you have a very short focal ratio telescope. The color filters are a good all around set but they would only be useful for 8" and larger telescopes and then only for planetary viewing. I don't care for the moon filter. It is better than nothing, but I prefer using polarizing filter for the moon.
So buy it for the case and the eyepieces and if you get any use out of the rest that is just frosting on the cake!
