Customer Review: Recieved Broken but I Like!

Just received the Celestron 44340 LCD microscope. On opening the package there was rattling sounds like internal pieces broke inside. Plugged in the Microscope and low and behold- no focusing. Rather then send it back, I fixed it myself. This is a nice microscope, in my opinion overall , just a mishap at the factory more or less is my guess. I would highly recommend this product for children's learning. The microscope I would consider to be medium to light duty. Its a mix of plastic and light steel. I would not consider this microscope to be industrial duty - like found at public schools. However the materials seem to be of good quality. I am very happy with the purchase/price. The scope itself came in a nice case with some prepared slides and the AC adapter is 120/240 Volts with various fittings. One negative about it is when ever touching a button on the display or adjustment the
Here is my fix-
I unscrewed the bottom of the cover. Unplugged the wires (easy). There was 2 small screws completely out and rolling around, There was still more sounds of a piece broke off in the next 'section'. So I took allot of the scope apart. The next section had a piece laying there (a bracket) It was a easy and obvious fix. Spent about 3 hours all together it. It turns out the 2 screws was obviously supposed to be holding the bracket. To put the bracket back in place you need to be a mechanically inclined person, patient, and clean place to work. Also if you will need small hex wrench and small Phillips. The hex wrench sizes needed was about 1.5 (metric) and 2.5 (if I remember correctly) The bracket goes in a certain way and a notch on the bracket fits into a grove on the focus mechanism. Watch out for 6 small bearings to pop out (don't loose) when you slide a metal plate piece out. Screw the bracket back on making sure to screw it on with the notch facing in the right direction. Then put the notch in the grove and try to put everything back together carefully. To put the bearings back you need to put the 2 steel pieces with holes in and slide it in putting 1 bearing in a a time until all 6 are in (3 per side).
