Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Celestron 21061 AstroMaster 70 AZ Refractor Telescope

Customer Review: Great for amateur with avid interest
Summary: 4 Stars

The celestron 21061 AstroMaster 70 AZ was a great choice for a first refreactor telescope. It has a very sturdy base and easy to use. The magnification lenses are of good quality.

Customer Review: Get what you pay for
Summary: 3 Stars

We bought the telescope for our 7 year old for Christmas because he'd consistently expressed interest in having one and looking at the moon, etc. I've never owned a telescope so I have nothing to compare it to but it's good for some "basic" star gazing and just looking at far away objects (even on the ground). It's pretty sturdy and would recommend it for younger kids or for someone who isn't terribly serious about astronomy. Good for the lake, etc.

Customer Review: It is OK as a toy, but not worth the price.
Summary: 2 Stars

the quality of the item is OK. I am looking for a suitable power telescope to look more details on the planets near us. This item can not do it. I used a camera with digital zoom to look at the moon, the result is better than using this item.

Customer Review: Good for the moon but other than that forget it
Summary: 1 Stars

Notice all the positive reviews talk about people who have never had a telescope or 7 year olds, because if you are over seven or have ever used a real telescope you would realize this is a toy not a telescope. If you want to see the moon you can see about the same thing on the pair of cheap binoculars without the hassle. Reveiws are right it is easy to set up, but seeing anything in the lousy lens that takes forever.

My wife bought it on sale for half price and that was still twice as much as I paid for an old pair of bushnell binoculars with the same quality..... If you want to see planets other than the moon, fork out the extra bucks to get something you will enjoy, starting with a cheap telescope thinking you will move up to something better is almost a gaurruntee you won't and all your kids will learn is how many curse words daddy can say...

Customer Review: A bit disappointed
Summary: 1 Stars

This telescope was a real disappointment for me and my son. It is very difficult to aim, the pointer is virtually useless and it has a tendency to drift from where its been pointed. It also doesn't magnify very well, this combined with the fact that it is difficult to aim means that it is only good for looking at objects that are relatively large to begin with (like the moon)and easy to point at.
