We bought this telescope as a birthday present for our 11 year old daughter. The tripod is very good for this price: very sturdy yet easy to point the telescope by unlocking the position and then tightening it at a new location with the knob on the arm.
We have seen the rings of Saturn (although small) and the kids love the details of the craters on the moon. The lighted finder scope seems to be more of a gimmick than actually useful, but maybe we just haven't figured out how to use it yet. Definitely worth the purchase.

I am a beginner so I used Amazon's tips to buying a telescope as well as all these reviews. I love it! I could see craters on the moon and it was so bright. I still have more experimenting to do though. The finder scope doesn't seem to be all that helpful so I aim the telescope by using the tip of it pointed to the sky. There is little assembly required and the instructions were very detailed with pictures, but if you're buying this for a child an adult should probably help.Customer Review: Great Find!

This was chosen as a gift for a 10 year old boy's birthday and he called to say he LOVED IT!!! Most excited response we have had for any gift we have sent him. His parents were pleased as well. I haven't actually seen the telescope myself, but judging from their response, it's a winner. We live 500 miles away from the child, and he asked us to go to our front porch so he could see us! I bought this for my 13 year old daughter for Christmas because she loves science. I didn't have a lot to spend, but still wanted something nicer then what you would get out of a kit.I was shocked at the quality of the telescope. We purchased this based on other reviews. It was very easy to put together and also easy to use and to transport. We use it at the beach to watch birds and distant boats. It's been a great telescope for this. - We haven't used it to stargaze yet. I would highly recommend this as a great all-around family telescope.
