I bought this scope as a Christmas gift for 3 children ages 8 to 12. Not only do they love but Mom & Dad enjoy it too. I also bought them each a "star" (Shining Stars by Russ) to name and they really get a kick out of looking at their very own stars!

Ideal for budding astronomers, the lightweight AstroMaster telescope sets up without tools and is easy to use. The scope is equipped with a 2.8" aperture and fully coated, erect image optics that deliver bright, clear images of our solar system--or, you can use it for land viewing, too! The altazimuth mount has a convenient pan handle and built-in clutch for smooth motion and precise targeting, while the permanently mounted StarPointer finderscope makes it easy to locate stars and planets. Pre-assembled steel tripod and a quick-release dovetail attachment allows quick, easy assembly--no tools needed. Weighs only 18 lbs including the tripod.
