Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Celestron 21045 114mm Equatorial PowerSeeker TelescopeCustomer Review: More than expected!! Summary: 4 Stars
After reading many reviews on this telescope and researching for about 3 days, I decided to purchase this telescope, mainly because of the price (it was $89.95 with free shipping). I received it 2 days sooner than I was told by Amazon, excellent, and it was the newer version pictured on the Celestron web site. Assembly was very easy, but it was aided my research while awaiting delivery. As in other reviews the finder scope is crap, the reason I didn't give it 5 stars. The eq mount takes some getting used to if you have never used one before. Once aligned tracking is a breeze. The first object I looked at was what I thought to be a very bright star and it turned out to be Jupiter and 4 of its moons. The mount, and tripod are very sturdy when set up properly and everything is tightened and secured properly. I used all of the accessories and was able to see Jupiter in great detail even with the 3x Barlow and 4mm combined, despite the great amount of light pollution where I am located within the city. Although at that high of a magnification focusing is difficult and the smallest vibrations while tracking are very apparent. This is an excellent first scope and I plan to enjoy many hours using it with my son.
Customer Review: A good value for the $$ Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this scope as a b-day gift for my hubby who has never owned a telescope before. It was fairly simple to put together, and we found the directions to be very helpful and accurate.
We first tried to view the moon. The finder was a little tricky and it took us about 30 minutes to get the moon aligned so we could really see all the details. It produced a very crisp image with lots of detail. We have been able to view constellations and a few planets also with this telescope and have been impressed with the clarity of the images. It seems there is a learning curve with the eye pieces and finder. Once you get used to it you can find what you are looking for pretty quickly though.
This telescope is not a professional grade scope, and for someone who has used telescopes before or has owned one it may not be enough scope for them.
We have found it to be very sturdy and were very happy that it came with lots of extras other telescopes in this price range leave out. The software helped us out a lot, and just having an accessory tray to put extra pieces on while viewing is a nice bonus.
For a first time telescope this one is great! I'm very impressed by the quality I got for what I paid.
Customer Review: A bit heavy and bulky Summary: 4 Stars
Celestron 21045 114mm Equatorial PowerSeeker Telescope
On my deck this telescope is somewhat shaky,
In a recent Readers Digest an article explained that ALL Telescopes are shaky to a point unless you set it up an solid ground, that took care of the shaky problem. Its hard to move everyday, with the tripod open its very difficult to get through a standard doorway, alot of work to get the legs folded up for every trip outside. the Optics is great, higher magnification is blurry but ALL telescopes do that...all in all? I say its a great star gazer!
Customer Review: good for price Summary: 4 Stars
Many of the reviews say that the mount is shakey. Understand for the price there will be limitations. Also 675x in unrealistic in most scopes. My boys still haven't opened it so my evaluation is not completely accurate. Remember not to use this scope about about 150x. That's about as high power as you can practically get. Also for looking at stars you don't want high power. They are just points and higher power reduces light gathering. I might suggest if you want to reduce the vibration see if you can upgrade with a pedestal mount. Still for the price a 114 mm reflector with an equatorial mount is pretty good.
Customer Review: 15 year old telescope Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this as a gift for my 15 year old daughter. She loves it. We have only used it once due to bad weather and a bad cold we are sharing. Its relatively easy to assemble. It's our first telescope and I recommend it for the younger beginner. You get a lot features for the price. Critical reviews I've read don't comprehend the low price you pay for what you get.
